Open Sweat Co-Hosts Mental Health Awareness Event

Open Sweat Co-Hosts Mental Health Awareness Event

Last weekend, Open Sweat joined actress Kate Mansi and Genevieve Fish of The Know Collective to co-host our second #sweattostopstigma event, benefitting BringChange2Mind.

The inspiring event, which aimed to increase awareness of mental health amongst women, was held in the beautiful Hyperslow studio on Fairfax, where guests took part in a 45-minute yoga class, led by Emily Davenport, followed by a talk circle led by mental health expert Abbie Plotkin.

The 90-minute group conversation gave the participants the opportunity to discuss what mental health and mental illness means to them, and how they may have been impacted by it throughout their lives.

Attendees were also asked to sign their name on the Live A Great Story board, and write one word that they feel defines their life.

BringChange2Mind is a charitable organization that aims to promote conversation to build awareness, understanding and empathy about mental illness with the hope of inspiring action to end the stigma and discrimination.

The Sweat To Stop Stigma campaign, launched by Mansi earlier this year, highlights the direct link and importance that physical activity and exercise plays in relation to mental health.

A big thank you to everyone who came out to support. You helped us raise over $1000 for the charity!

And a special shout out to Zico Coconut Water for keeping us hydrated and La Vie Boheme for the beautiful yoga mats.
